| The Seamen’s Home of Fredericia is legally and financially independent. A commercial foundation which, like the other seamen’s homes in Denmark, the Faroes and Greenland, is affiliated to the Missions to Seamen in Denmark , “Home Missions to Seamen”, which is our umbrella organisation affiliated to the Danish National Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Moreover, the Missions to Seamen in Denmark are also affiliated to the International Christian Maritime Association ICMA.
Our work among the seamen in the port covers both the evangelising, church-related work and the merely welfare-related tasks. In our opinion none is more important than the other. We would like to serve the whole person, both body and soul. But there is no doubt either that we are first and foremost a missionary society. When we involve ourselves in welfare work we do so because it is important to the people we meet on board and because it may contribute to strengthening the testimony of the Christian church.
Therefore the seaman who wants to go to the pool for a swim or needs assistance to have a film developed must be met with the same open friendliness and helpfulness as the seaman who wants to have his own Bible or wants a lift to a service in one of the churches of Fredericia. Nobody on board must feel less important or less interesting when it comes to visiting.
